"A SILENT VOICE"
Genre- Drama, Slice of Life, School, Shounen.
"Koe no Katachi" or as said in English, "A Silent Voice" is a fitting name for this movie as this is exactly what the movie is all about. A lost and subdued voice of a child, sustained and kept in dark because of her problem that she was born with. Deafness, a common problem in the world. A problem so common yet the burden that comes with it is equally as common and heavy both in their own way.
Bullying as big of a crime it is, the outcomes and the after effects of the same is something that follows a person's heart, soul, mind and body through the rest of their lives. It is not only the victim that suffers but also person carrying out the act that suffers later on after realizing what kind of a person that he/she had been for so long in his/her youth and other days. It is our karma and sins that is inescapable and as long as bad is done, it too shall be re-payed in the exact same way if not worse than the sins that have been committed. "A Silent Voice" is a movie of all the above mentioned guilt and sins committed by a person through their lives. Though the (anime) movie is really clear and depicted in a very open and relative sense, there are still some parts that the viewer has to catch on to with his/her own understanding and mind because as the movie also revolves around sign language there are times when the person watching the movie must rely on his own thought and process to understand the movie better and not miss out on all the fun and communication in the movie. Not to reveal any further, this is a movie that speaks more about life and its daily problem and the harsh reality, especially with the people differently able and and how it is at times that their feelings and emotions do not get through not matter how much they try and be themselves. It is but in the end that they do not have much of a choice but to either believe in themselves or to rely on that one supporting pillar who would make their live worth living and dying for.
Now coming to the technical aspects of the movie, the animation was really top notch and something that you could have said is out of the world considering the time the (anime) movie was released. The backstory and the plot itself is very open and laid out so there really is no beating around the bush keeping the movie very simple and open in all forms and ways. Though there are times when the movie feels stretched, it but due to these times and scenes that the movie keeps on getting more interesting and better with each minute that passes and each scene that takes place.
This movie is recommended for every "SLICE OF LIFE" movie lover.
